1. Who we are

PingUp is operated by PingUp, located at Fairfax, Virginia. This policy explains what information we collect through the PingUp mobile app and the sendpings.com website, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.

By using PingUp, you agree to this policy. If you don't agree with it, please don't use the service.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details. Your name, email address, username, and password when you create an account. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from that provider instead of a password.
• Profile information. Any profile picture or display name you choose to upload.
• Pings you send. The preset message, who you sent it to, and when. We store the message text as it read at the time you sent it, so your history stays accurate.
• Contacts and friends. If you grant contacts permission, we use it to show which of your contacts already use PingUp. You control this permission and can revoke it in your device settings at any time.
• Waitlist signups. If you join the waitlist on our website, we collect your email address.

Information collected automatically

• Device and push tokens. A push notification identifier so we can deliver Pings to your device.
• Basic usage and diagnostics. App version, device type, operating system, and error reports, used to fix bugs and keep the service running.
• Log data. IP address and timestamps recorded by our servers as part of normal operation and abuse prevention.

3. How we use your information

• To deliver your Pings to the people you send them to.
• To create and secure your account, and to sign you in.
• To send push notifications you've enabled.
• To show you your Ping history, friends, and streaks.
• To screen usernames and custom message content for abusive material, using an automated moderation service.
• To prevent spam, abuse, and fraud, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
• To fix problems and improve how the app works.
• To email you about the launch, if you joined the waitlist. You can unsubscribe at any time.

4. What we deliberately don't do

Some of these are legal commitments, not just product decisions:

• We don't sell your personal information to anyone, and we don't share it with advertisers.
• We don't store read receipts. Whether you've opened a Ping isn't recorded or shown to the sender.
• We don't put message content in notifications by default. A push says only that you have a Ping. Revealing the sender or the message is a setting you turn on yourself.
• We don't upload your full contact list to build a shadow profile of people who don't use PingUp.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run PingUp, and only as much as they need to do their job:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
• Railway — hosting for our backend API.
• Cloudflare — website hosting, DNS, and protection against attacks.
• Apple Push Notification service — delivering push notifications to your device.
• OpenAI — automated content moderation for usernames and custom messages.
• Loops — sending waitlist and launch emails.

We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or where we believe it's necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate abuse of the service.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Ping history is kept so you can look back at it. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 7 days, except where we're required to keep something longer for legal or security reasons.

Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or we launch, whichever comes first.

7. Your rights and choices

• Access and correction. You can view and update your profile information in the app.
• Deletion. You can delete your account from within the app, which removes your profile and Pings. You can also email us to request deletion.
• Permissions. Contacts and notification permissions can be turned off at any time in your device settings. PingUp keeps working without them, with fewer features.
• Notification content. You choose whether pushes show nothing, the sender, or the sender and message.
• Email. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA — including the right to request a copy of your data, to object to certain processing, or to lodge a complaint with a regulator. Contact us and we'll help.

8. Children's privacy

PingUp isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Security

We protect your information in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption, and we limit internal access to what's necessary to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
